About

Sorany Gutierrez is a Colombian-born interdisciplinary artist, performer, and director based in Dallas, Texas. With over 18 years of experience across Colombia, Spain, Germany, Mexico, Panama, and the United States, her work exists at the intersection of performance, cultural expression, and social engagement.

She holds a BFA in Performing Arts from the University of Valle and has trained with internationally recognized ensembles including Odin Teatret, the Company of Jerzy Grotowski, Centro Moveo, and Laboratorio de la Máscara.

Sorany’s practice is deeply collaborative, merging physical theatre, mask work, and contemporary performance techniques to explore identity, memory, and collective experience. Her work challenges norms while fostering deeper human connection through embodied storytelling.

She is the former Artistic Director of Teatro Dallas, where she led both community-based programming and professional productions such as Fur, Villa, Little Mexico, Tlali, and Cement City.

Her recent works include Origenes and Diosa with Cara Mía Theatre, Inasible with Pasionaria Laboratorio Escénico, From Home, The Ashes at Texas Vignette, and The Soil Box at Oak Cliff Cultural Center.

Through her work, Sorany continues to create spaces where art becomes a vehicle for cultural dialogue, healing, and transformation.
